Bikes worth £30k stolen at national championships

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/wales/10206082.stm

Summary:
Nine specialist bikes were worth £30,000 have been stolen from the National Mountain Bike Championships. The bikes were stolen between Saturday night and Sunday morning at the event in Margram Park near Port Talbot. The championship was held at the park on the bank holiday weekend. The police await information of any where about of the bikes. All the victims that were visited at the events were not what they expected to go home without their bikes. The police claim that this event has been targeted by a Group organized thieves.

Evaluation:
This article caught my eyes because you rarely here things like these happen to a championship event for bikes. Who would steal a bike? Events like these should have security all over even looking after the bikes. I think this was an inside job because no one knows where the bikes are. The police should investigate all members for this matter. Not much I can say about this article but I assume that these bikes that are worth £30,000 are worth reselling them for double the price on EBay.

Police in Wales warn of crackdown on summer raves

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/wales/south_west_wales/10207641.stm

Summary:
Police forces in Whales are warning that they will crack down on illegal raves held over the summer months. Other three police forces claim that the events can be a nuisance to a danger for the organizers and those attending. They arrested 17 and 10 cars was impounded because of raves that were out of control. The resident in Dale near Milford Haven descended 300 cars on the bank holiday from the people who were travelling from Devon, Hampshire and the north east of England. Even though, people want to enjoy themselves but it is also a risk of having a rave.

Evaluation:
I think having a rave is a very risky event. People from all over are willing to enjoy themselves but also have consequences when problems are circulating on the premises. Events like these are filthy when there is trash left by those who attended and is attacked by seagulls. That leads also to a cost that the counsel workers put £3,500 to clean the area. These events also lead to fights because six people remained in custody. Events like these should be banned because it is illegal and it bad for the community.

Potters Bar driver 'said he had lost everything'

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk/10211473.stm

Summary:
Six passengers and one pedestrian died in a train crash. The train was travelling at 98 mph when it derailed. Before the crash an inquest had been heard. The driver said that he lost everything and had been a violent jolt after the train ran over faulty points. The train was travelling from London King’s Cross to King’s Lynn, Norfolk. Alan Ticehurst, office worker, heard the inquest and witnesses the after math of the crash. Ticehurst claims to hear a big bang and immediately gathered the team and took their first aid kits. At the scene there was just dust and people were lying around. Spite of what happened this could have been prevents because checks had been carried out but one report had been forgotten and another had been misinterpreted.

Evaluation:
This is a tragic incident. Six passengers had lost their lives which should not have had. Even though, the inquest was heard, it was already too late. It has been come across the night before that two passengers were concern about the track. After the crash, the driver was happy to be one the victim that survived and told his part of the story. I think that some people might have survived a crash but will always remember that horrifying day. They can never bring back the ones who died for mistakes that were not carried out properly. I think due that the fact the train manager did not respond to the passenger concern, this would have never happened.

Edinburgh sex attacker sought by police

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/scotland/edinburgh_east_and_fife/10212880.stm

Summary:
The police are investigating a man who thought to carry out an incident against two women in Edinburgh in two different locations. The first attack happened at 12 midnight on Monday in the city’s Easter Road. The second one was 15 minutes later in Albert Street. Both victims were the age 24. The second victim was punch in the head causing a cut above her left eye but both woman was not seriously injured. The attacker was described as an 18 to 25 year old. The police said that the first woman was walking north on Easter Road when a man approached her and start speaking to her in appropriately. She tried to walk away but he grabbed her and assaulted her but her screaming led him to run away. The second victim was walking along Easter Road when she suspects that a man was following her. He grabbed her from behind and spoke inappropriate comments towards her. The police are asking witnesses to come forward for any kind of information.
Evaluation:
When I read this article, I thought that nowhere in this world is safe anymore to walk the streets. I think midnight is the worst time to walk the streets. You will always have these people that are lurking on the streets to commit a crime. Even nowadays with the economic crisis, people are stealing to get money. These two women who have been assaulted were not really injured but should have known better not to walk late at night on the streets. It is understandable that this sort of crime should not have happened but you can never prevent things like this to happen. It could be the same attacker or not. I think with less information about this incident the more is a wasted because this could happen again because they have not caught him yet.

Woman dies in 'stabbing' at St Enoch's Square newsagent

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/10206115.stm

Summary:
A 38-year-old woman has died in St Enoch's Square in Glasgow city centre. Almost noon time the police were called to the McColl’s store. The woman who died at the store was an employee at the shop. A man who they also believed to be in his 40s was also injured in the incident and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The hospital staff claims that his condition is serious but stable. The police suspect this was an act of murder at first and it is understood that the diseased woman knew the injured man. The police was still busy at the scene on Tuesday afternoon and the area where this incident happened was closed while the forensic experts investigate the crime scene. The staff at the store said it was a terrible thing that happened because she was a pleasant woman and stated that all the staff in the shop are pleasant.

Evaluation:
This incident is an intimate matter between lovers. This is a terrible thing indeed because it happened in front of the 38 –year-old woman colleges. With this kind of violence you stay with an image of shock. The people who were in the store at that particular moment did not require hospital treatment. This is a murder- suicide attempt because witnesses saw him stab himself after stabbing the woman. However, the police is carrying out the investigation, most of the witnesses who saw this incident are willing to give their fully co-operation. It is a terrible thing to happen and on the other hand you do not know what cause this to happen. The police only have his version of the story what happened between him and the woman. All what is left is that the man still lives but surly would be behind bars for a long time.

Woman held after child's buggy 'pushed into road'

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/england/hampshire/10196236.stm

Summary:
People could never behave like grown-ups. They take matters into their own hand and do not care of the consequences that it can cause: like a car almost hitting a buggy. An unbelievable situation occurred in Hampshire. A buggy that contained a 13 month old girl was pushed into a Hampshire road. This was caused by an argument that broke out between the 13 year old mother, age 22, and an other woman, age 24. Police said that the buggy was pushed into the road and was almost hit by a car. The 24 year old woman was later arrested by the police who have appealed for witnesses to come forward. A spokesman of Hampshire quoted: “this was a particularly nasty unprovoked attack, the consequences of which could have been tragic”.

Evaluation:
This is a matter of jealousy. I think that the police should do a drastic investigation about this incident. The 22 year old mother should press charges of assault. Many people do not see the danger when it comes to an argument while having your child next to you. It is unhealthy for the baby to see all of this. Even though, they would not remember any of it, they still have a sense of noticing certain things. As a mother you should respect yourself and be a role model for that child. If you only imagine would have happened if the car had hit the buggy. This would end up tragically, painfully and stay with guilt for the rest of your life because it could have been prevented.

Two arrested over teenager's death in Wigan pond

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/england/manchester/10194856.stm

Summary:
The tragic heartbreaking news of Dylan, 17 years and was the eldest son, to his family had arrived to their door step. Dylan Aaron's family said he had "a promising future”. Unfortunately his life ended when he was murdered. The authorities were called to the pond on Ladies Lane, Hindley. His body was recovered in a pond by an underwater search team after a fire and rescue unit could not have traced him. Two men of the age 26 and 34 was arrested and been held for suspicious of assault after the tragic incident in Wigan, Greater Manchester. These two men are still in custody for questioning. His family claims that he was a promising young man with a promising future. The family will dearly miss especially his brothers and sisters.

Evaluation:
The heartbreaking words: “We all loved him so much” is a tragic meaning that this is unfair and the family will miss Dylan so much. The incident of a 17 year old boy lost his life in unexplained circumstances. The police say that they are working hard on this investigation. It is still in its early stages and there is a lot of questions that are suppose to be answered. However, they been asking people who was by the pond on Saturday night because there were still missing pieces to fill the gaps. I think that this investigation has nothing to do with these two men who have been arrested because witnesses said that they saw the boy go into the water. Even though, I see that this investigation would be an unsolved case these two men should be released and start all over again and look at how Dylan lived his live before he died. Dylan might not had a promising live ahead of him like his mother quoted or maybe he was suicidal.

Surgical instruments 'left inside' patients

Sourse: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/scotland/10194990.stm

Summary:
Patient's organs are punctured accidently in the operating room. In the past few years, Scotland's largest health board, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said six patients left the hospital with swaps inside their bodies. From the total of objects left in their bodies, three people became unwell as result. They surgeons claim that all swaps and instruments are counted in and out during the operation and are recorded on a wall board. These incidents are reported within the organization and are an undergoing investigation. This patient that was involved with this incident received an apology from the hospital. Eight accidents occurred between the January 2008 and February 2010 in which objects were left in patient's bodies. These objects were: bone-drill fragments, fragments of tubing, needles and swabs. The details were released after a Freedom of Information request to all 14 health boards in Scotland by the Press Association.

Evaluation:
Cases like these are heard before all over the world during operating procedures. It is a horrible procedure or experience a hospital can go through. Operating object is left behind in patient’s bodies. This hospital had an incident not once but eight times which put patient’s lives in danger even after surgery. As a routine, these operating objects should be counted before and after the procedure. In a patient mind, they expect a surgeon to be saving lifes in the operating room when the patient is under under the anaesthetic. The patients expect to wake up healthy and happy that the procedure is over and to continue with their lives as a healthy person. My opinion is that the patients should sue the hospital because these are stupid mistakes that surgeons and his/her staff are capable of not doing. In a hospital you can not do mistakes like these. Further more, no patient should have to endure another operation or have their life put at risk because the pre and post checks are not rigorously carried out.

John Curtice: Influence of Lib Dems in hung parliament depends on staying ahead of Labour

Source: http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/john-curtice-influence-of-lib-dems-in-hung-parliament-depends-on-staying-ahead-of-labour-1954281.html

Summary:
Can Nick Clegg maintain the Liberal Democrats will win more than Labour for the first time since 1918? Or does he slip away leaving his party with a credible third place? The support of Lib Dem has slipped more evenly in second leader’s debate. The party’s average poll rating now stands at 29 per cent between the first and second leader’s debate. Despite their slippage, the Lib Dems are still ahead of Labour and still have a good chance of coming second in the popular votes. There are signs that the Hung Parliament may not be greeted with enthusiasm by many voters. A Hung Parliament would put the economic recovery at risk, while BPIX (The British polling Index) reported that 55 per cent believe it would result in weak government. Clegg is aware of these concerns and addressed that it might enable Gordon Brown to cling to power even though Labour came in third in votes. The Tories would still 52 seats short and would be compelled to come to some understanding with Lib Dem would feel encouraged to strike a hard bargain, including on electoral reform. If Lib Dem support were to slip behind Labour, their moral authority and political blow would be much weaker.

Evaluation:
In some countries, they have reached agreements with smaller parties that they will support the government if there is a vote in parliament aimed at bringing down the government and forcing an election. In a Hung Parliament, the current Prime Minister will remain in power until he or she resigns and may try to stay in government even if his or her party did not win the largest number of seats. The Labour Party will lose its absolute majority if they lose 24 seats and the Conservatives will gain an absolute majority if they gain 116 seats. Any result in between will result in a hung parliament. Nick Clegg, who is diminished and only able to secure relatively crumbs is making his way up to plenty of voter this year because he have the opportunity of any Liberal leader has had putting electoral reform on the political agenda.

Schoolgirl, 15, rushed to surgery after tongue piercing ruptures vein

Source: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1271239/Schoolgirl-15-rushed-surgery-tongue-piercing-ruptures-vein.html

Summary:

A 15 year old girl, Reece- Marie Hall, had an emergency operation after having her tongue pierce in a tattoo parlour. She lied that she was old enough to have her tongue pierced. Something went wrong during the £15 procedure. She claims that after leaving the parlour, her tongue started to bleed profoundly. Hall was rushed to the hospital by ambulance where she received stitches on her tongue. Hall has a lisp and cannot always understand what she is saying. Her mother hopes that this is not a permanent thing. The Hall family is considering suing the shop because of this incident.

Evaluation:
Reece- Marie Hall’s case is a wake-up call to the thousands of young people every year who have their tongue pierced. To experience such pain as she been through and the multiple of medication she is taking, no one would like to experience that. I do not think that the Hall’s family should sue the shop because in the first place Reece lied that she was 16 years old. Although, tattoo palours should be registered with local authority for cleanliness, they do not have a minimum Legal age for body piercing. The tattoo artist, Steve Rowe, who has not caused Reece’s injury, blamed the teenager for interfering with the newly pierced tongue as soon she left the shop. Even though, Rowe has been doing this type of art for 30 years, I think he should know what to do before and after a piercing takes place. Reece should be to blame here because of this incident not the shop.

Two pupils arrested after Stowe school knife fight

Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2010/may/02/pupils-arrested-knife-fight-stowe

Summary:
The Stowe school who teaches under 2000 students had a scare when two teenage boys have been arrested following an alleged knife attack on another pupil. The police was called just before 1am after a fight broke out in one of the Buckinghamshire School’s boarding houses. The 17 year old who had a minor cut on his arm, was treated at the Milton Keynes general hospital. The two students who caused this incident are being held by the police on suspicion of assault accusations. A number of items were removed from the school by the police including the craft knife but there was never previous incidents of students possessing knifes. However, the school which sets in 750 acres of parkland and teaches 750 boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 18, headmaster, Dr. Anthony Wallersteiner, said: ‘aggressive behavior will never be tolerated here’.

Evaluation:
Weapons in school are not surprising to no one anymore. Two teenage boys were arrested for fighting with knifes is a common thing. This school claims to say that they do not tolerate violence but yet again you see that these pupils do not have boundaries. No respect for each other nor the rules. All pupils are aware that ‘Stowe’ does not acknowledge violence and adopts a policy of zero tolerance in any cases. Even though, these two young boys fought with knifes, they never made it clear why and how did the fight start. It is a shame that this shows a bad example for the school and for the young pupils that is attending this school. These boys should be punished and should be suspended for the rest of the school year.

Hunt for bomber who targeted the heart of New York

Sourse: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hunt-for-bomber-who-targeted-the-heart-of-new-york-1960872.html

Summary:

The attack of a terrorist once more in New York City. It has been under a decade since the attack of the ‘Twin Towers’, World Trade Center. Around 6:30pm, a T-shirt salesman who alerted the police in which he saw a car filled with explosives and was parked near Time Square, the city busiest tourist district. The bomb failed to detonate and security teams successfully disarmed it after clearing thousands of people from the streets. A group that calls themselves Pakistani Taliban released a video that night saying: 'potentially-devastating but ultimately failed attack'. After it was eventually declared safe, surrounding streets were re-opened around 5.30am. The police are investigating whether it was an extremist or domestic militia or an Islamic terrorists attempt to bring fear back to the city where they destroyed the World Trade Center.

Evaluation:

Terrorist attacks will never end. September 11th 2001 is a day that will never be forgotten. Thousands of innocent lives were killed. A tape which was released of the Taliban group showed that they hailed: “a jaw- breaking blow to Satan’s USA”. These Taliban seeks to make their attack the most fatal way as possible. Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, told a press conference saying: ’he has no idea whether the attack was planned by domestic or foreign organization’. The Pakistani’s Taliban never struck outside of the subcontinent and boast of a wrongfully claiming responsibility however, for attacks that other groups have carried out. I think that the US would always be a target for any terrorist because no matter what the war still goes on and there is no way to end it.

Teenager ruled out as suspect in fatal Buxton fire

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/derbyshire/8642909.stm

Summary:

A five year old girl and two year old boy died in a fire in Derbyshire and a 17 year old was arrested for causing it. A woman and her baby escaped and now are stabled in the hospital. The teenager was arrested but was released from custody. After the investigation the investigator announced that the 17 year old is not involved in the fire. The police investigation is a still ongoing and seeks help for any help from the community for essential information. This investigation is being treated with as suspicious because there was no accidental cause.

Evaluation:

Cases like these are very hard to believe that young children are involved with such crime. How can a 17 year old child be involved of starting a fire in a building? The investigator released the 17 years old child because they did not have much evidence. However, the police seek information from the locals who saw anything strange around the area, they assume that it was not an accidental cause. It was a shock to the whole community because most locals felt anger and grief. Reverend, Carl Edwards, held a service which had included prayers and two minutes of silence for the family who lost their two children that died in the fire.
