Summary:
A 15 year old girl, Reece- Marie Hall, had an emergency operation after having her tongue pierce in a tattoo parlour. She lied that she was old enough to have her tongue pierced. Something went wrong during the £15 procedure. She claims that after leaving the parlour, her tongue started to bleed profoundly. Hall was rushed to the hospital by ambulance where she received stitches on her tongue. Hall has a lisp and cannot always understand what she is saying. Her mother hopes that this is not a permanent thing. The Hall family is considering suing the shop because of this incident.
Evaluation:
Reece- Marie Hall’s case is a wake-up call to the thousands of young people every year who have their tongue pierced. To experience such pain as she been through and the multiple of medication she is taking, no one would like to experience that. I do not think that the Hall’s family should sue the shop because in the first place Reece lied that she was 16 years old. Although, tattoo palours should be registered with local authority for cleanliness, they do not have a minimum Legal age for body piercing. The tattoo artist, Steve Rowe, who has not caused Reece’s injury, blamed the teenager for interfering with the newly pierced tongue as soon she left the shop. Even though, Rowe has been doing this type of art for 30 years, I think he should know what to do before and after a piercing takes place. Reece should be to blame here because of this incident not the shop.
